Tell us about your career with Hays so far (including your desk, business area, etc.).
I started at Hays almost seven years ago, joining the Life Science team. The job is fast paced and challenging, but with that comes a huge amount of career development. Over this timeframe I’ve had the opportunity to change specialisms, now working in our Construction & Property team, which I really enjoy. Since joining as an Associate, I’ve been promoted four times and there is still plenty more opportunities ahead of me to progress within the business. After three and a half years in Hays, I’ve had the opportunity to get involved with leading a team, and thanks to the help of our senior management team and Learning & Development Programme, I now manage multidisciplinary teams across our Galway and Limerick offices.
Why did you join Hays?
I had worked in sales for a number of year and was looking for a challenge; the commission-based structure means you are rewarded for the work you put in and have control of your own earning potential. The clearly defined career path and timelines also played a large part in my decision to join Hays. It worked out well for me as I have grown from an Associate into a Manager position in a relevantly short space of time.
What’s the favourite part of your role?
Helping people – I genuinely get such joy out of helping a candidate find their dream job and a client excited about the influence these successful individuals can have on a business and team. It’s still, to this day, one of my favourite parts. Their gratitude for the work and service we provide means everything.
What has been your biggest achievement at Hays to date?
Managing a team. When I started at Hays, I didn’t foresee myself having people responsibilities . and thought I would focus on the business aspect, but strangely enough, this has been the most rewarding part. Watching people join the business, helping them develop their skills, become experts in their area, hit their financial goals and get promoted makes me so proud of my team and their successes.
What do you like most about working at Hays?
The culture. We have a fantastic culture and wellbeing team that make this fast-paced job so worth it. We celebrate individual and business success, and whether it’s a personal best performance, team glory goals, summer parties, Christmas parties, or charity events, there is always something happening that allows us to come together, reflect and celebrate.

I joined Hays in May 2021 as an Associate. I had no background in recruitment but had gained extensive experience in the hospitality industry, which provided me with many transferrable skills for the role. Three quick years later and I am now a manager, heading our temporary and contract part-qualified finance recruitment team in Dublin.
Why did you join Hays?
There were a few reasons why Hays was my first choice. Firstly, the focus on training and ability for progression within the company was made clear from the first interview. Secondly, Hays is an industry leader and joining a global company was always a goal of mine. Finally, the culture was an important pillar for me, and again, this was evident throughout the interview process.
What’s the favourite part of your role?
There are numerous things that I enjoy about my role including the colleagues I work with, the clients and candidates I interact with on a daily basis, and the social aspect of Hays, but the best thing is when you find someone their dream job. The uncapped commission is also pretty good!
What has been your biggest achievement at Hays to date?
My biggest achievement is probably receiving four promotions in three years. The great thing about Hays is once you get a promotion, you know exactly what is expected of you to get your next one, and timelines are clearly established. This makes it clear what you need to do to progress.
