TRADES AND LABOUR JOBS FAQs

Yes – trades and labour jobs are a great career choice for many reasons. The earning opportunities can see good tradespeople earning €50,000 – and even beyond – a year. The industry is growing, so there’s a high demand for labour. You can select which field to specialise in according to what you enjoy most. And there are guaranteed career progression opportunities, which you can achieve while still being paid.

Trades and labour jobs are usually paid an hourly rate, which varies according to the skillset and your experience and qualifications, For example, a plumber or electrician can be paid in the region of €25 per hour, while a carpenter is typically paid around €20-€22 per hour.

To work in any trade in Ireland, you will need a full trade qualification. Trade qualifications are offered at a variety of educational institutions across Ireland and include a mix of in-classroom and on-the-job or apprenticeship learning. For labour roles, including machine work, short introductory courses are available, with some labourer roles available at entry level.

Increasingly, we are working with and supporting companies who are actively embracing apprenticeship and other training schemes.

All employers will also require safe pass and manual handling certification as a minimum, with online or in-person induction and site awareness training mandatory for certain roles. Check the individual job post for details.
