A quantity surveyor is required in the mid-west region for a large construction project worth over €100m.

Your new company

Our client is involved in a unique construction project that will take 3 years to complete. As a result, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced Quantity Surveyor for the project site in the mid-west region. You should have experience in construction of large-scale technical investment projects of a Civil Engineering or heavy construction nature or similar work on a pharmaceutical or similar site carrying out pre- and post-contract duties. This project is of a prestigious nature with significant Environmental and Health & Safety considerations being applied throughout the works.

Role & Responsibilities
The role will include all aspects of quantity surveying both pre- and post-contract across a variety of sectors. The successful candidate will be equally capable of working independently or as part of a larger team and will report directly to the Commercial Manager. Unique project experience in a structured environment with appropriate training and support.
  • Monitoring the work and allocations recorded on site vs the program from Subcontractors (validation)
  • Accurate records to protect the company against inaccurate claims from Subcontractors
  • Foresight to minimise any conflict with Subcontractors and clients
  • Ensure records are being maintained
  • Preparing and managing capital cost estimates
  • Advice on construction economics
  • Producing cost estimates
  • Implementing tendering procedures and contract arrangements
  • Drafting of contract packages including advice on NEC forms
  • Prepare pricing documents for tender packages
  • Implementing tendering procedures
  • Draft instructions to tenderers
  • Development of tender evaluation criteria
  • Drafting of PQQ questionnaires
  • Handling queries during tender period
  • Commercial evaluation of all tender submissions
  • Negotiation with tenderers
  • Expediting contractors’ insurance, bonds and collateral warranties; and evaluating contractors’ final accounts
  • Ensure correct payments are made and coded correctly
  • The project is undertaken within a limited budget, and is multidisciplinary.
  • There is intense collaboration with the customer and with contractors, consultants and suppliers.
  • The Quantity Surveyor works within a matrix structure, in a multidisciplinary team, and in an international / multicultural environment.

  • The project is of public and regional interest.
  • The project value is in the region of €200 million.
  • The remaining project duration is expected to be 3 years.
  • This role will have a number of significant contractors.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Third level qualification in Quantity Surveying, plus significant and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in construction of large-scale technical investment projects of a Civil Engineering or heavy construction nature or similar works on a Pharmaceutical site carrying out pre- and post-contract duties
  • Worked with NEC forms of contract
  • Worked with and applied CESMM
  • Thorough knowledge and relevant experience in the civil/construction industry.
  • Proficient at preparing reports
  • Specialist knowledge in their expert domain
  • Experience with contract program
  • English speaking
