A mechanical project engineer is required to work on biomass boiler heating projects.

Mechanical Project Engineer, Tipperary
The Project Engineer – Mechanical will oversee the design, development, and execution of biomass boiler heating projects.
Most of these projects are under the umbrella of SEAI’s Support Scheme for Renewable Heat (SSRH). This role combines technical design expertise, project management, and compliance knowledge to assist businesses and organisations in adopting renewable energy technologies in alignment with SEAI guidelines and SSRH requirements. The engineer will oversee/manage the internal SSRH team, engage in project management, provide technical support, and client interaction to meet project goals within budget and timeline constraints.
Key Responsibilities
Project assessment Design and development
  1. System Design:
    • Develop detailed designs for biomass boiler heating systems, including schematics, layouts, and technical specifications which will be complied into a comprehensive technical submittal.
    • Optimise designs for reliability and cost-effectiveness, ensuring to meet the client’s needs.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards and environmental regulations.
    • Develop project costings based on the overall scope of the project to support the sales team
    • Regular updates to the internal costing tool to keep it in line with current costs.
  2. Technology Integration:
    • Integrate auxiliary systems such as feedstock handling, heat exchangers, heat meters with a good understanding of BMS (Building management systems).
    • Select appropriately sized equipment such as pumps, heat exchangers and pipework.
  3. Software Tools:
    • Utilise CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and simulation tools for system designs.
    • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft suite and project management tools.
Heating System Assembly
Technical supervision of the assembly of a heating system from its component equipment, either in the workshop in the company premises, or on-site
Project Management
  1. Planning & Coordination:
    • Develop and manage project timelines, milestones, and budgets.
    • Collaborate with procurement and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
  2. On-Site Supervision:
    • Oversee the installation and commissioning of biomass boiler heating systems.
    • Troubleshoot technical issues during the implementation phase.
  3. Documentation:
    • Prepare and manage all Health and Safety documentation for project initiation and adherence throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Prepare project documentation, including design reports, technical manuals, O+M Manuals and test records.
Stakeholder Interaction
  1. Client Engagement:
    • Liaise with clients to understand project requirements and provide technical guidance, giving weekly updates during the project lifecycle.
    • Present design proposals and ensure alignment with client expectations.
  2. Equipment Purchasing:
    • Work with suppliers to source components and materials while ensuring quality and cost control.
Compliance and Regulations
  1. Regulatory Adherence:
    • Ensure designs meet local authority requirements.
    • Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
Qualifications and Skills
Educational Background
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Energy Systems, or a related field.
  • Project Management qualification is desirable.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in CAD/Revit and simulation tools.
  • The ability to calculate system requirements including Pump, Heat exchangers, Boiler and Buffer and pipe sizing.
  • Knowledge of hot water heating systems, fuel types, and thermal processes.
  • Familiarity with Biomass boiler systems heating desirable.
  • Familiarity with SEAI’s SSRH guidelines desirable
Experience
  • 3–5 years in Project Management and Design of hot water heating systems projects, or similar systems.
  • Experience with renewable energy systems and biomass systems is a plus.
Soft Skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client and team interactions.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
