Graphic Designer | €37543 | 12 Months | Dublin City/Hybrid

Your new company

As Graphic Designer, you will join the National Museum of Ireland who are known as Ireland's leading museum institution, with a strong emphasis on national and some international archaeology, Irish history, Irish art, culture, and natural history. Your new office is located in Dublin City (Collins Barracks) and is easily accessible via public transport. The National Museum requires you to join their team on a 12-month assignment. You will have a hybrid work model after your training is completed.

Your new role

As Graphic Designer, you will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of the Museum’s refreshed brand and identity over a twelve-month period, working both with the Design Studio Manager and external contractors.

Your duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in the implementation of the refreshed Brand and Identity at the National Museum of Ireland.
  • Assisting in the delivery of various projects and works streams identified within the business plan in relation to the Brand and Identity implementation, including overall project management and co-ordination.
  • Work cross-functionally with internal colleagues and departments.
  • Meeting with internal divisions to discuss specific needs in relation to implementation of the brand identity.
  • Co-ordinating specific work packages for design, including wayfinding and marketing materials.
  • Concept, design and artwork of graphics, labels, wayfinding and marketing (brochures, flyers, posters, advertisements, evites, digital banners and social ads).
  • Producing designs for both internal and external communications.
  • Managing proposals from initial concept through to production, working with external designers or internal design team.
  • Liaising with external designers, printers, photographers, copywriters, publishers, web developers and print specialists.
  • Ensuring the Museum’s visual design language guidelines are adhered to in all creative executions, providing advice to other Departments as necessary.
  • Writing technical specifications and liaising with external stakeholders on print production. Colour proofing and quality control of print collateral.
  • Working with a range of media and keeping up to date with emerging digital design technologies.
  • Any administrative or ad-hoc duties that fall into your new role.

What you'll need to succeed

A third level qualification (NFQ Level 8 or above) in Graphic Design/Visual Communications or other equivalent qualification acceptable to the Museum along with a minimum 2 years working experience in design for print and digital.

In-depth knowledge of the Adobe CC design software, including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and After Effects and MS Suite (including Word and PowerPoint) is essential. You will have the ability to manage a design from the initial brief to finished artwork, along with the ability to communicate the essential message of the design concept to the client. You will possess a keen eye for detail along with the ability to manage multiple projects and to work within strict project deadlines. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.

Experience in print management or work experience in the print process is desirable but not essential. A demonstratable interest in the arts, culture and heritage is advantageous.
